A proposito dell' artista

Rossella Sartorelli was born in Novi Ligure, in the province of Alessandria, but has always lived in Tortona. Since childhood she has been passionate about drawing, and has distinguished herself since her first painting competitions. She never stopped painting, but she was never satisfied with the results she had already achieved: always in search of new knowledge, she continued to experiment. Her art is characterized by a relentless search for original forms of expression, where the compositional play is enriched by a powerful chromatic force capable of arousing strong emotions.  Initially oriented toward a figurative language (her first experiments with oil color date back to the years 1966-1968), over time her works have evolved toward abstraction, until reaching a style that distinguishes her by an exclusive touch. Her creations are characterized by chromatic research and the constant presence of circles and semicircles, represented in the form of bubbles, igloos, hot air balloons and other round shapes, which, together with harmonic lines, suggest vague figures and leave ample room for the viewer's subjective interpretation.

If we were to place Sartorelli's art within a painting current, we could call his style an “abstract realism”: an oxymoron expressing the reconciliation of opposites. Figurative analysis and the synthesis of abstraction come together, creating a perfect harmony between poetic vision and formal investigation. Although primarily oriented toward abstraction, the artist does not disdain to return periodically to pure figuration. However, today his language is dominated by a tonal force that characterizes his abstractionism, with a “physical” interpretation of color. “I have a direct relationship with color, I would say almost physical, in manipulating it, kneading it and seeing it shine on the canvas,” says the artist, who considers color as an index of existence and a vehicle of liberating symbolism. The gesturality that accompanies pictorial creation becomes the backbone of his work, imparting an emotional intensity that goes beyond the visual aspect.

Her spontaneous brushwork has taken the place of a more controlled rationality, allowing the viewer to enter into an empathetic communication with the painting, which also involves the physical and sensory dimension of color.

Until 2014, Rossella Sartorelli was a shy and shy person, but since that year she began to participate in group shows, solo exhibitions and competitions. The city of Genoa represented her debut on the public stage, where she gained wide acclaim, also participating in the Genoa Biennale in 2015 and numerous other competitions and fairs. She has exhibited at the Mantua Biennale, MIIT in Turin, and in several Italian cities such as Florence, Milan, and Voghera, as well as abroad in Stuttgart and Berlin.

In 2016 she was featured in three solo exhibitions in Tortona, Frosinone, and Genoa, while in 2019 she had a solo exhibition in Voghera, Pavia. In 2023 she participated in group exhibitions in Melpignano (LE) and Matera, garnering acclaim from both the public and critics.

Rossella Sartorelli is included in the catalog “Profili d'Artista - Percorsi d'Arte Contemporanea” (Satura Publishing House) and in the international yearbook “Arte Contemporanea Artisti 2019” (Mondadori).
