This technique is the modern version of the ancient "Opus Sectile", well documented in the "History of Art", which was carried out until about the end of 300 A.D. The "pictorial" realization is obtained with a careful selection of the stone material (granite, marble, travertine, onyx, quartzite etc...) which, appropriately used, contributes to create the contrasts of colour, shades and backgrounds, which give depth, lightness, luminosity and movement to the work.
