The inspiration for the artist came from the home of a very elderly relative, who fills her days reading gossipy newspapers about the lives of the so-called "famous". Reflecting on how many useless words, misleading to our real problems and those of our country... to the many people who buy these newspapers looking for a refuge zone to their own problems by watching and judging the lives of others "Gossip" was born.
He asked the old lady for about fifty of her newspapers to develop the new work.
He prepared a large polystyrene support on which to attach the pieces of paper, using only his hands to tear off the newspaper excerpts, trying to give an aesthetic order to the setting. No scissors to cut, no paintbrush to colour. To the support formed by a round dome with a volcano in the centre, he glued the yellowed pages of a 1955 newspaper as a background. Once all the countless pieces of paper were attached, he dug craters in which he poured red coloured vitrified paint. He then used a blowtorch to semi-burn the paper in the centre to create undulating depressions. This act signifies how all these words in the wind end up burnt together with their uselessness.
This unique and unrepeatable work will acquire value over time as the newspapers used are dated and document events that took place in a specific time.
